Notes keeps Landscape print setting only during current session; Reverts to Portrait with restart

Technote Number: 1097167

Problem:
The workaround is to either set the printer orientation to Landscape in the
operating system Control Panel (which affects the orientation print setting in
all other applications), or set the Landscape orientation for every new Notes
session in releases prior to 6.0. In Notes releases 6.5.1/6.0.4 and later you
must reset the orientation each time you print.

This issue has been fixed in Notes 7.0 Client and Notes 6.5.5 Client.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino Release 6.5.5 MR fix list
(available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):

Printing
SPR# KUMA5W3MVB - Fixed a problem where landscape orientation selected in the
Page Setup dialog would not stay selected. This regression was introduced in
6.5.1.

Refer to the Upgrade Central site for details on upgrading Notes/Domino.

Supporting Information:

Steps to reproduce problem:

1. Choose any document in Notes.
2. Open the Print dialog box and locate the Orientation property.
- in Notes 4.x select File > Print > Setup
- in Notes 5.x select File > Print > Printer button > Setup button
- in Notes 6.x select File > Page Setup

3. Set the print orientation to Landscape.
4. Close the Notes session.
5. Reopen Notes.
6. Repeat Steps 1 and 2. Note the Orientation has reverted to Portrait.

Please note that the page orientation change should remain set only within the
same database because this information is stored in desktop file per icon. If
you change the orientation from Portrait > Landscape and print different
documents within the same database, the setting should stay at Landscape.
However, if you open another database and print a document, that orientation
should be set to Portrait (assuming that's the default). You can open the
dialog File > Page Setup already at the Workspace level for each database stub.

Supporting Information:
In Notes, just like other Windows products, there is a Page Setup choice in
addition to the Print Settings choice associated with the printer. The Page
Setup contains a common set of choices such as Page Orientation, Paper Size
etc. The Printer Settings dialog has a number of these same choices plus
additional choices specific to the device you are printing to. The Page Setup
options selected in Notes are saved on a per database basis much like they are
saved on a per document basis in other Windows products. The Page setup
choices always should override the Print Settings choices. For example, you
may have a database with a large top margin to allow for printing on logo
letterhead, or a specific paper size for printing labels or envelopes. You
will see the page setup change based on what database you are in and what
setting was last selected for that database.

Notes 5 vs Notes 6.0:
Notes 5 page setup choices override printer settings just like in Notes 6.0.
The key difference is Notes 5 had much fewer page setup options. Notes 5 page
setup only had starting page number, pagesize cropping, and margins. Notes 6
page setup has the Notes 5 choices but also adds in Orientation, Papersize,
papersource, and is much better organized. Aside from the additional choices in
Page Setup, you get additional choices doing print.
